Make 'Adaptability' Your Middle Name this Summer
by Mark Dodich
Claim your summer! That’s a nice way of saying that this summer is going to fly by quickly. If you want to get your sunshine fun in, you cannot wait for the right time — you just have to take it.

The enthusiastic planet of travel, Jupiter, recently moved into quick-paced Gemini. This supports quick trips, short classes, numerous small home and business projects, and keeping on the move. Although this rapidly changing energy is highly restless until June 2013, the bouncing from project to project part of it is strongest through this September.
Those four- to five-day weekend trips are better supported than taking your world tour. If you do take the long trip, odds are good you will keep moving from place to place. Pack lightly so you can quickly adapt. In fact, the words adaptability and flexibility need to be your middle names this summer.
Not to be negative — but to be realistic, be careful of planning trips into known fire zones. Near the Aug. 1 full moon, the planets are very strongly placed in the air (Gemini, Libra and Aquarius) and fire (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius) elements. Wind and fire do not mix well in national parks. Of course, it would be nice to go someplace dark to view the Perseids meteor shower on Aug. 12 to 13.
This hot and blustery energy is amplified by another Mercury retrograde cycle. The communications planet gives the illusion of moving backward in heart-centered Leo from July 14 to Aug. 7. The way to take advantage of this normally disruptive cycle is to take actions to reconnect with the child within.
In other words, make opportunities for play and creativity. Leo also asks you to look at where you need to step into leadership rather than waiting for someone else to take charge. If you have a great idea, then this Mercury retrograde cycle is an excellent time to do the behind the scenes planning and preparation.
Part of the challenge to putting together a cohesive plan this summer comes through conflicting energy between Uranus and Pluto. To give you a feel for the destructive side of these planets, Pluto moved onto Capricorn Haiti’s natal chart in 2010 and they had a massive earthquake. When Uranus moved into Aries last year, the Japan earthquake hit. And, those two disruptive planets were not even aligned when those earth events took place.
Now these transforming and revolutionizing planets are combining their talents in a challenging 90-degree relationship called a square. It would be wise to make friends with Uranus and Pluto since they will be in a power struggle dance until spring 2015.
Regardless of your thoughts on the coming end to the Mayan calendar, it is evident that planet Earth and her residents are in major times of transition. Old paradigms and outdated systems simply do not work anymore. Pluto forces you to release your death grip on old patterns and behaviors. Uranus revolutionizes outdated value system so you can live in a higher balance. Both operate under that famous principle, “You have to break a few eggs to make an omelet.”
Instead of taking a fearful approach to the coming changes, understand that the world is undertaking a major renovation. You incarnated at this time to support the shift into the next level of planetary consciousness, so why fear that which you knowingly came into this life to create?
It is to be expected that there will be changes in where and how you live. Many people will either move in the coming year, or explore new locations with their intent on setting up a new home base starting the summer of 2013.
Instead of thinking about what you are leaving behind, this summer’s energy supports forward thinking. Since Pluto burns your bridges behind you, and Uranus blows everything up, you might as well look forward.
Beyond all the outer world chaos, you can find your heart center this summer. You can make changes now based upon your connection to your higher self. That is the part of you that knows you have volunteered to be on planet Earth for these shifts that you already knew were coming.
One final note: The two weeks leading up to the Aug. 17 new moon help you take action on a longer-term plan. Ambitious Mars aligns with Saturn to help you create your divine plan in the mundane world. Have some fun this summer, because the emotional tone changes in October.
