Primal Body, Primal Mind: Beyond the Paleo Diet for Total Health and a Longer Life, Nora T. Gedgaudas, Healing Arts Press, 2011, $19.95

If you are into health and nutrition, you’ll love this book. Author Nora T. Gedgaudas includes extensive modern scientific research studies to back up her suggestions. Primal Body, Primal Mind is very in-depth and informative, but don’t let this fool you. The facts are presented in a straight forward way that any average Joe can read and understand. The basic principle behind the book is that to enjoy a longer, healthier life, we need to go back to the caveman way of eating. Gedgaudas suggests that decreasing or eliminating sugar, starches and grains in the diet as well as enjoying moderate protein and good, healthy fats can lead to good health, and “we can enjoy a level of health and vitality one might never have believed possible.” This is one of the best health information books I have read in a long time.

Reclaiming Happiness: 8 Strategies for an Authentic Life and Greater Peace, Nicola Phoenix, Findhorn Press, 2011, $15.95

Do this for yourself, counsels Nicola Phoenix in Reclaiming Happiness. Do what, you may ask? Let your needs, dreams and beliefs be your guide, not the desires of others. When you’re ready to reclaim your divine nature, personal power, safety, desire, anger, self-love, inner peace and personal fulfillment, you learn how to fulfill yourself, not others. Phoenix gives you compassionate permission to feel your pain and fears, and then like any good therapist, she gives you an encouraging tap on the bum to move forward and change. You can reclaim happiness by accepting and being who you are.

When God Steps In, Miracles Happen, Neale Donald Walsch, Hampton Roads, 2011, $16.95

Neale Donald Walsch, author of the Conversations with God series, shares more of his wonderful messages in When God Steps in, Miracles Happen. He has gathered many personal stories from everyday people to help explain God’s presence in daily life. These stories tell about synchronistic events, coincidences, and what Walsch terms as everyday miracles. He brings them to our attention to show that it’s fine to share what you may find a little strange, to come out of the closet and tell your story, and to shout out your truth. Walsch states that awareness is the key — it is everything and only when you are aware of yourself, can you change the world around you. These wonderful stories are positive messages of inspiration and encouragement. Often when you are looking for a sign or wanting an answer, you only need to become aware of the stranger in the store, the street signs, the small voice within or even a song on the radio. As Walsch says, “In one manifestation or another, God will be there.”
