Emotions Bubble Up for the Summer

Have you been feeling it? An energetic shift has been building up, and now it's here. Three eclipses help you get in touch with changing emotional priorities during July and August. Then on August 21, spiritual destiny points called the nodes of the moon begin a year and a half cycle to manifest your new priorities.

Subtle emotions have been bubbling up from deep within for the past three months. Feelings and desires that are almost imperceptible have been trying to get through the busyness of your life to grasp your attention. Now that the eclipses are here, your emotions pop to the surface and demand to be heard.

Although the two lunar eclipses on July 7 and August 5 are not considered to be of visual and astronomical importance, the astrological implications are significant. The lunar eclipse on July 7 begins a year and a half cycle of eclipses in Capricorn and Cancer. Then the August 5 lunar eclipse completes a year and a half cycle in Aquarius and Leo.

Consider how your attitudes have shifted since December 2007, and what needs to change in the next year and a half. Aquarius and Leo energies brought higher ideals and the desire for passion in your life experience. This is not to say that you achieved those lofty ideals. Consider how last year's presidential elections raised the bar on the ideals of the U.S. Now, the incoming job is to bring those ideals down to earth. And that is what is coming up on a personal level.

It all begins with the lunar eclipse on July 7 in responsible Capricorn. Yes, a new level of responsibility is coming to you, but you have the free will choice to decide how much is actually placed upon your shoulders. To go to this heightened level of service, it is first necessary to toughen up your boundaries - especially emotional boundaries. Write these keywords in bold print on your summer calendar: Self nurturing is a priority in my life.

Taking action steps to honor this affirmation helps you at the solar eclipse on July 21. An eclipse in the final degree of a sign (in this case 30-degree Cancer) represents completions. On the outer level, you are called to release something - be it a way of living, a job, a relationship or an attitude/belief whose time has passed.

Regardless of your zodiac sign, it's time to have a talk in front of a mirror. Remind yourself that you are a child of creation and the universe will support you in making the needed changes. Tell yourself that you are safe in letting go, regardless of fears about money, loneliness or survival.

Releasing does not have to be a heart wrenching process. The August 5 lunar eclipse is more playful as it makes its final stand in Aquarius, completing year and a half of learning to keep your heart open while maintaining detachment from outer world chaos. Aquarius wants to go off on a new adventure, so explore unknown territories and activities during August.

According to Dane Rudhyar, author of An Astrological Mandala, a sacred Sabian symbol shows this lunar eclipse as "a train entering a tunnel." Meditate on this symbol for personal meaning about the months ahead. There is a quicker way to the next station in life than climbing a big mountain. Reconnect with your quiet connection to the divine essence and allow it to help you along your path. The outgoing message of struggle and suffering is exiting with the Age of Pisces.

The incoming experience beginning on August 21 is represented by sensitive, karmic points entering restructuring Capricorn and nurturing Cancer for the next year and a half. The lesson is to step into larger responsibility in the world while still taking good care of you.

Think about the changes within you in 1991 to 1992 and 1972 to 1973, the previous times that this cycle was active. The world saw the establishment of the European Union, the authorization by Congress for the first Gulf War to liberate Kuwait, the Watergate break in and the creation of an International Human Rights Day by the United Nations.

Capricorn restructures government, reminding it that it is there to serve the people. Cancer takes care of emotions and people. Together, society will be improving integrity in government and big business, poverty issues, and health care.

On the personal level, the incoming energies support you in serving the larger ideals of humanity. Yet the path requires that you strengthen emotional boundaries and practice self nurturing along the way. It requires that you are in alignment with your divine essence so that you do not work too hard.

Know the difference between what is your responsibility in the world, and that which is no longer yours to carry. In this way, you are of great service on the planet while enjoying the abundant blessings of this beautiful world.

Finally, commit to doing something that helps you to feel nurtured and really, really good this summer.
