Create an Intention Altar
by Jennifer Cox
There are many ways to manifest intention, and an altar is a creative way to honor what you'd like to give rise to in your life. An altar not only creates a sacred place to meditate, but also focuses your dreams for the coming year. Using objects that have meaning to you, create your own intention altar or give one as a gift to a special someone in your life.
Here are some inspiring resources to have on your altar. Create an intentional ritual by lighting the candle, reading a passage from the book and selecting an inspiring card. The final altar resource below will help to enhance your meditation, or at least make it a little sweeter.
Focused Intention Soy Candles, $15-$16.50
These hand-poured candles are created right here in Portland. Each candle, with a choice of five varieties, offers a different intention focus when lit. Created with natural wax and pure essential oils, they are also ecologically friendly. Visit www.kccandles.info.
Do It Anyway: Finding Personal Meaning and Deep Happiness by Living the Paradoxical Commandments, Kent Keith, New World Library, 2008, $12.95
In Do It Anyway, Kent Keith offers a list of paradoxical commandments that help to address the things that make life less than ideal. An example: "Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth. Give the world the best you have anyway."
Wisdom of the Peaceful Warrior Deck, Dan Millman, New World Library, 2008, $17.95
This is more than just a set of 52 inspirational cards. Illustrated with beautiful images on one side, thoughtful passages about reflection and self-improvement are found on the flipside. "Once you make a decision, follow it with all your spirit. When you sit, sit. When you stand, stand. Whatever you do, don't wobble."
Intentional Chocolates, $12-$49
What can be better than chocolate blessed by monks? When consumed, it is claimed that the intention poured into the chocolate will be enjoyed by the consumer when eaten on a regular basis. Even the Dalai Lama tasted this chocolate and stated, "I think this chocolate will bring great happiness to mankind." Visit www.intentionalchocolate.com.
