Multi-Tasking and Mercury Retrograde Ahead
by Mark Dodich
It's time to kick your mojo into high gear for May and June. By mid-May, the pace jumps into warp drive, opening your mind to inventive new possibilities. Also be receptive to messages from eccentric people who cross your path. You will gain a fresh perspective on something that will be important to you by summer solstice.
The keyword for May is multi-tasking. It would be wise to tend to numerous and varied small tasks early in May in preparation for another annoying Mercury retrograde cycle coming on Memorial Day.
The first week of May prepares you for this quickening with an abundance of planets in the earthy, pragmatic signs of Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. Use this practical energy to tend to worldly tasks ranging from manifesting in the material world to moving your body through massage, yoga or a gentle hike into a field of spring flowers.
The Taurus new moon on Cinco de Mayo is aligned with the star Menkar in the constellation Cetus the Whale. Ancient myths saw this constellation as the rising of the sea monster. Christianity viewed this as the story of Jonah and the whale. A more shamanic perspective is that this alignment with whale totem energy represents ancient information being brought into modern world application. Whether you choose to see monsters or ancient truth in the weeks ahead, know that there is a hidden message if you are willing to explore the hidden belly of the whale.
Take time just for yourself to remember what you really want. What is it that really calls to your heart? Although May begins on a down-to-earth tone where all of this lofty thinking is airy-fairy, know that elevated, conceptual thinking is coming soon.
It is important to know what you want so that all of this fast-paced energy helps you act in harmony with your desires. If not, you will travel from task to task, ending up with a scattered string of unconnected stuff cluttering your life, but not nurturing you. Knowing your desires helps you move through the field of flowers, like the butterfly that knows exactly which flower holds the sweet nectar.
By the full moon on May 19, you are ready for a change. This full moon lands in the last degree of Scorpio, the sign of elimination. When an astrological event lands in the final degree of a sign, something must be released. Scorpio helps you cleanse old emotional wounds. It is also an excellent opportunity for a yard sale.
On Memorial Day on May 26, the communications planet begins its breakdown cycle known as Mercury retrograde. Lasting until June 19, this re-visioning and re-assessing cycle is especially important because it occurs in one of Mercury's favorite signs, Gemini.
Although many people dislike this cycle because it disrupts their neatly laid plans, there is a constructive use to this mentally frazzled cycle. Take a short trip to a place that will clear your mind. Make a behind-the-scenes plan to present to the world later in summer. Connect with old friends or have a family reunion.
Just as this stepping-back cycle ends, summer solstice begins on June 20 at 4:59 p.m. A chart cast for the summer shows a pattern called a yod. Like a divining rod, this Y-shaped pattern in the sky intuitively drives you toward a goal that is currently difficult to grasp. The emotional moon in practical Capricorn is telling you to be patient. Eclectic Uranus in watery Pisces excitedly shouts to sell everything, buy a sailboat, and hit the open seas. Both of these planets in the handle of the divining rod drive you to the base where masculine warrior Mars tells you to hurry up and make your choice.
Somehow you must find a balance between your stable, responsible nature and your freedom-loving desires. Mars in Leo during late May and June urges you to blow open your heart to creativity and passion.
