Harnessing Your Energy in March and April

Evolutionary astrology is based upon a dynamic versus a static approach to chart interpretation. Humans grow and change constantly, and static astrological descriptions may put us in a box. The evolutionary approach emphasizes the individual's participation in creating the future based on their own choices and actions. The planetary trends below can provide guidance in the same manner as a weather forecast. It is advantageous to set one's sail with the winds, rather than against them. However, each of us ultimately determines our own course.

March and April always hold opportunities for releasing the old and opening up to new beginnings, as we transition from winter to spring in late March. This two-month period kicks off with the re-entry of Mars into Cancer and opposition to Pluto in Capricorn. Pluto's opposition to Mars may bring forward a tendency to over-emphasize career at the expense of the nurturing of our emotional needs. Knowing this, we can be mindful of our longstanding emotional bonds, and to our own need for rest and replenishment. April provides a window where creative projects can find fertile ground, and if we harness our energy, we can make headway that may have eluded us the past few months.

Aries (March 21 - April 20)

You may feel lately that life has been full of responsibilities, both old and new. While the workload may not change, you might try choosing to do the task for the task's sake, while putting the desire for accolades aside. This shift in perspective can open doors for you in April, when there is an opportunity to step into a position of strength as a result of the groundwork you've been laying the past few months.

Taurus (April 21 - May 20)

It is sometimes challenging for Taureans to let go of familiarity in favor of change, even if that change might be for the better. March represents an opportunity to shed old baggage in a more easeful way than in the past. Should you choose to engage this letting-go process, April brings material confirmation and validation in the form of new financial opportunities.

Gemini (May 21 - June 21)

In March, you may be asked to rely on your intuition and gut feelings rather than your head in making an important decision - and this may be new territory for you. Feelings and emotions have their own language, and it's about time to let yours speak. If you do, April can be a fertile creative period in which you feel passionately connected to your projects. It's time to infuse your words with the truth of your heart.

Cancer (June 22 - July 22)

In March, you are called to focus on one of many things you've been working on, and get serious. The planets will help you by providing energy and stamina. But you must take the first bold steps. What is up for release is your tendency to underestimate yourself. In April, beware of comparing yourselves to others - or of others competing with you. Stay out of the fray, and April brings a time of completion and satisfaction.

Leo (July 23 - August 22)

The pace can seem rather quick in March, and you may have to work on your ability to adapt to new situations. There are good things to be had in releasing your attachment to how you thought something should look. If you are willing to go with the flow, April brings an unexpected opportunity to step into the spotlight, and to use your unique talents for the good of your community or loved ones.

Virgo (August 23 - September 22)

March is an introspective time for you, and can serve as a time of respite before a very successful and active April. Honor your body's need for rest, and listen to your intuitive sense that something big is about to happen. Prepare by gifting yourself time for meditation and reflection. April brings the culmination of many aspects of your material life, and the potential for a peaceful conclusion in these matters.

Libra (September 23 - October 23)

Your authentic self is wanted in the world these days, Libra. The challenge in March is in bringing that self forward more fully and more often. Your desire for harmony may have trumped your willingness to ruffle feathers in the past. But March helps allow you to get past the need for perpetual peace, and April shows you why it's important to do so.

Scorpio (October 24 - November 22)

You've been harboring a vision of the future, and March allows a little more time for incubation of the dream. Be protective of it while you slowly build. It will serve you to develop patience as your ally, and don't worry too much that it's not all perfect right now. The messages you get in April about finances give you the go-ahead to begin hatching your plan.

Sagittarius (November 23 - December 21)

You've spent many years in the process of self-deconstruction. But the wheel has turned, and it's time to create something permanent and lasting. March brings the ability to heal from the challenges of the past few years, even if there are still loose ends to be tied up. April brings karmic reward for the hard work you've been doing on yourself, freeing you to become the adventurer you were meant to be.

Capricorn (December 22 - January 20)

March opens up a time in which many of your core strengths are required in order to navigate changing times, in your own life and in the world. Capricorns can be the solid types that the rest of us lean upon, but be attentive to your own deep desires at this time. April brings opportunity to travel and adventure, but only if you respond with a passionate "Yes."

Aquarius (January 21 - February 18)

Life is a bit dream-like these days, and March may feel like you are moving at a different rate than the rest of us. Take this time to pay attention to your dreams, keep a journal or use a creative outlet to express those emotions. April brings more clarity and perspective, and the ability to decipher what messages your dreams and feelings brought to you in March.

Pisces (February 19 - March 20)

The planetary energies in March support the achievement of some long-cherished dreams. You are in a time of flow, so dive in and follow the currents, asking for exactly what you need. If you continue to be as unselfish as you have been of late, April's gift is a re-energizing influence that brings the fire back to your core.
