Miracles happen everyday to people from all walks of life, but despite their frequency, we define miracles as supernatural events.
A recent Harris Poll found that 79 percent of Americans believe in miracles. But what if miracles are more commonplace than we expect? What if miracles are a natural part of life, rather than a phenomenon?
According to C.S. Lewis, author of the famed The Chronicles of Narnia series, "The divine art of miracles is not an art of suspending the pattern to which events conform, but of feeding new events into that pattern. It does not violate the law's proviso, 'If A, then B.' It says, 'But this time instead of A, A2,' and nature, speaking through all her laws, replies, 'Then B2' and naturalizes the immigrant, as she well knows how. She is an accomplished hostess."
The trick to seeing miracles everywhere is recognizing that Spirit's gentle presence is all around you. From the simple gesture of a stranger holding the door open for you to feeling the presence of angels when you're afraid and alone, miracles happen all the time.
Miracles represent the moment when you are fully present in a situation, recognizing the new pattern and seeing the connection you hold with others on a deeper level. Quantum theory proposes that energy doesn't exist in a vacuum and that all things are connected. An intelligent life-giving energy powers your body, gives purpose to your ideas and feelings, and connects you with your inner spirit of wisdom. The language of miracles, that tangible presence of Spirit in the world, reminds you to look deeper at the daily events in your life.
Defining miracles as a natural occurrence allows you to see Spirit's presence in every action - messages from friends and strangers that make a difference in your life. Words, stories or pictures on television, in the newspaper or on billboards that capture your attention. Times when you feel compelled to go to certain places and something important then occurs. Events that seem to repeat themselves over and over again, calling you to focus your attention upon them.
The language of miracles is spoken everyday. It's your job as a human being to see the connections, and to remain alert and alive to the presence of Spirit calling you to be an instrument of the universe.
