Open the Door to Peace

In 1979, Jerry Wennstrom, a rising star in the New York art world, set out to discover the rock-bottom truth of his life. For years he questioned the limits of his creative life as a studio painter. After destroying all of his art and giving away everything he owned, Jerry began a life of unconditional trust, allowing life to provide all that was needed. His story is told in The Inspired Heart: An Artist's Journey of Transformation.

In the sculpture "Peace," Wennstrom incorporates metaphors for peace seekers. By ringing a bell, the door with a carved face pops open and a dove holding an olive branch comes out of the hidden compartment. When the small heart chamber with a copper door opens, a tiny Tibetan deity appears and does a comical little dance to chimes from a music box.
