Saturn in Virgo:
Wise Elder or Running Out of Time?

After having a difficult summer, a client called to ask me to write an autumn column devoid of any more challenges. I told her that I could write a Pollyanna article filled with spin control, but wondered if that would really make her feel better when reality struck.

The harsh reality is, restructuring Saturn moved into pragmatic Virgo on September 2, and will pass through the sign of the goddess until July 2010. This gritty energy advises you that it is time to get focused.

Saturn is symbolized as Father Time, the wise elder you see on New Year's Eve just before turning the year over to the young child. He is often called The Great Crystallizer, meaning that you become clear on what is working for you and what has gone beyond its usefulness. When Saturn finishes clearing you of clutter, you will feel much better. The process of letting go is only as difficult as you make it.

Virgo, the goddess holding the sheaf of wheat, helps you to cleanse and simplify your life. Like separating the wheat from the chaff, you must release activities, relationships and behaviors that are part of the old you.

It is time to be wise, and wisdom requires you to trust your inner knowing to do what must be done. However difficult, you must have the courage to take the next step.

For example, the second-half of 2007 is filled with changing relationship energy. Love and money Venus ends her renovation period on September 8, which started on July 27. Sexual and ambitious Mars begins his rejuvenation phase on November 15 in the highly emotional sign of Cancer. You only need to look around you to see that all types of relationships are up for change.

The incoming Saturn in Virgo cycle helps you put your relationships, and relationships beliefs and behaviors into working order. Outmoded relationships must be released, and people who have been avoiding relationships must step into healthy sharing patterns.

The higher expression of Saturn in Virgo is practical planetary service. If you follow the philosophy of changing times associated with the end of the Mayan Calendar in 2012, then the time is short to heal yourself and Mother Earth. This is not a doom-and-gloom perspective, but an honest and urgent call to go beyond the limitations of your personality ego, stepping into the fullness of your spiritual nature.

This inner call to operate at a higher soul frequency is set off by the solar eclipse in Virgo on September 11. Because this date has become so significant in our society, expect emotions to run high during September. A solar eclipse blocks out the busyness of your life so you can focus on your highest priorities.

Add to this a chart cast for the next three months at the autumnal equinox (September 23 at 2:52 AM PST), and you will see impatience and forceful change implemented by anyone holding onto deep-seated anger issues. The wise person will honor that there is a process to the natural cycle of life and death. When the autumn leaves turn color, then you must honor the completion of a cycle.

The problem is that warrior Mars is opposing destructive Pluto, indicating an "I want it now or I'll blow it up" mentality. Give people extra space this fall to avoid being drawn into their soap opera when illusions burst.

A more positive expression of incoming energy is to say that you can use the coming October 11-November 1 Mercury retrograde energy to go to the deepest part of your inner self to clarify your visionary goals. The goal of this communications breakdown cycle is to rethink your actions, making certain that your outer world activities are in harmony with your inner ambitions.

Overall, you will feel rushed to do all that you have to do during the remainder of the year. Instead of attempting to be everything to everyone, decide what no longer serves you and release it. You are being called into a higher level of service. That means that you must operate at a higher soul vibration, not just add more stuff to your to do list. Finally, there is time to sneak away for self purification and opening to wisdom, meaning - don't take the world so seriously!
