Spiritual Testing:
Becoming a Worthy Instrument of Spirit

Margaret McElroy channels Maitreya, a teacher and healer energy from the spirit dimension. With this being's guidance, McElroy has created the Maitreya Educational Foundation, which has institutes in Seattle, Australia and the Netherlands. McElroy spoke with New Connexion about the spiritual testing she went through to become a channel for Maitreya, and how she shares his messages about the power of astrology and divine timing.

Q. What does Maitreya teach?

A. Maitreya's teaching are about connecting the dots and putting past lives and astrology together ? but at the same time, getting rid of the old energy so that you can move into the new. The more you clear away, the more you can manifest, and the easier it becomes.

For four years between 1992 to 1996, I was in training to see if I could carry the energy of Maitreya, and how I would deal with that energy. I obviously was assumed to be worthy to do it, because in 1996, my ex-husband told me that he felt very strongly that we were to do a website. After he said that, I was told by Maitreya, "Now you are ready to go out there."

Q. What type of testing did you go through?

A. I had been through a tremendous amount of testing to see how dedicated I was - how devoted. I was given opportunities to make choices of whether I would go the way of Margaret or the way of Maitreya. In 1995, I came to the U.S. and met a man who was very rich and he offered me a lot of money if I would work with him and give him information for the stock market. I couldn't do it - I felt I would be selling my soul. I knew inside of me that there was a bigger picture, but I didn't know what that was.

During that whole year, I went through a huge ego destruction of who I was. I had been the New Zealand's Women's Weekly clairvoyant and the top radio clairvoyant. And that was wonderful, but then I came to the U.S. and decided to put feelers out and found that people didn't want to know me. It was a huge ego destruction. Terrible, but I not only went through ego destruction, but also I changed direction from becoming a clairvoyant on a regular basis to becoming a metaphysics teacher.

In the shower in Los Angeles just before my return to New Zealand, I was given the master of metaphysics course, which I then taught for nine years. It became an incredible testament to Maitreya - to his energy- and also to enable the energy to move on, to go where he went.

Q. How has Maitreya helped people who come to you?

A. In New Zealand, a man came for a reading and he had a deaf wife. During the reading, it was about the man and his future, but it was also about possibilities and opportunities that he could fulfill. The reading impressed upon him about what a wonderful healer his wife was. He thought his wife couldn't be a healer because she was deaf. He had been trying to force her to work in a different area altogether. She had kept insisting on wanting to be a healer. Through the reading, Maitreya allowed this man to see her in a different light, to see the beautiful energy this woman had and what she could do with it. He went home a changed man, and his wife became a healer.

Q. It seems to be all about choices.

A. Spirit is there to help us and either we take the help or we don't. We're given choices and once you start working with spirit, once you start moving in the new direction you're supposed to move, it's frightening. We have a self that says, "Why, what, how, who?" and starts bringing in the excuses, and it's our higher self that says "This is our destiny."

Sister [another spiritual being I channel] said, "Our only desire in our world is to help you to make your life better for yourself. It is not to insist on domineering or stopping you to do what you have to do. We are only trying to help you to reach the goals and the destiny you have set out for yourself."

I remember when I wrote my first book ? I was told to write it in 1988 and it was called A Simple Guide to the Psychic. I wrote it and had to wait until 1994 to get it published. When I wrote it, I wondered how I would get it edited. It was a test in faith because it sat on my typewriter until I became a Women's Weekly clairvoyant and the editor came to me and said, "It's a pity you haven't written a book." And I said, "Oh, I have," and then I got it published. And that book still sells very well today.

Q. That sounds like divine timing.

A. There is a divine timing. For instance, I didn't know about astrology until 1992 when I came to work with Maitreya, and he taught me astrology - led me to the books I needed, which helped me to understand the concepts.

I came to learn that if I did things that Spirit told me to do, it tied into my astrology. When we can work with astrology, we can find out divine timing. I saw a lady who wants to go into business, but she is having problems, like treading mud uphill. She's in a health-oriented business, but I looked at her chart and everything is against her at the moment. She's learning lots of lessons, but in September it changes, and then she can work with the energy and make it work.

Q. Is there a message that Maitreya would like to share for Spring, this time of rebirth?

A. To embrace everyday. To face your fear, and not stop yourself from doing the things you want to do. Don't let the self come in and stop you.
