Eclipses, Equinox and Enlightened Vision

Would England be England if it weren’t for eclipses? In 664 A.D., there was a total solar eclipse that passed over the British Isles. Seven previously warring fiefdoms came together to debate the energies of the eclipse, and this Synod of Whitby resulted in the country that became England.

Eclipses are not just for world events – they have an effect on people too. There are two total lunar eclipses this year on March 3 and August 28. A lunar eclipse pulls you between emotional extremes, and a total eclipse increases the energetic impact. The disruption to your comfortable little life requires you to better balance yourself in the life areas represented by the zodiac signs involved.

Virgo and Pisces are emphasized, suggesting that you need to improve the balance between your work world and spiritual life. If you have been overly stressed, trying to do more and more, then it is time to take a few days off. Conversely, if you have been off in your personal fantasyland, then it is time to get to work.

The higher spiritual vibration of this eclipse energy is to help you bring spirituality into the mundane world, and raise the mundane into the spiritual. You are a multidimensional being, and March’s two eclipses are stimulating you to go beyond the 3D world. Like a monk in a consciously aware state while sweeping the floor, you can purify your mind in the most enlightened ways, and still clean the floor.

The second eclipse is the Pisces solar eclipse on March 18. The significant impact of these eclipses is that they are active longer than the normal three months before and after they occur. Think back to the events and feelings of your life at last September’s eclipses. Those eclipses landed at the exact opposite locations of the current eclipses, making this spring season the flip side of the coin from last fall.

Many people did deep, emotional processing and healing last autumn. Others were so focused on just surviving, or just doing what they had to do to get along, that their higher vision got lost in the busyness of life.

It’s Restructuring Time

The March 18 solar eclipse, combined with the vernal equinox energies on March 20, offer a fresh vision. The ambitious planet Mars is aligned with spiritualizing Neptune in charts cast for both events. They are both on the opposite side of the sky from disciplinary Saturn, providing a key theme for the next three months.

Mars urges you to assert yourself in working toward your ideals. Neptune asks you to give yourself the open space to allow the next step in your higher vision to come into your life. Saturn, with all its delays and responsibilities, rewards you if you are willing to work toward the long term goal. Although it may not be time to go off in your sailboat to live on an artistic Paul Gauguin South Pacific Island, you can still take a trip to research your vision.

Expect temporary delays as indicated by an equinox chart cast for the next three months. Restrictive Saturn continues to be retrograde (since early December) through April 19. You are restructuring your life to support you in the new balance offered by the eclipses. Although astrologers tend to disparage Saturn because it just isn’t any fun, the blessing is that you are building a foundation for your spiritual ideals and enlightened vision to work in your daily life.

The key to this two-month period is to go beyond your humdrum life to open to the reality that is beyond a limited perspective. Then take conscious and productive steps to bring that vision into your mundane reality. Work hard, but also take time off. That time at rest helps the unknown opportunities from beyond the veil to come forth because you have made space for them in your life.

More than anything, allow yourself to flow gently with the energetic ups and downs commonly associated with eclipses. Life will be more fun if you do.
