An Interview with Medical Intuitive Lori Wilson

by Connie Hill

Lori Wilson has been a medical intuitive for almost 15 years. She is the author of de-mystifying... Medical Intuition. She has her own school in Canada teaching medical intuition, and also leads workshops and seminars throughout Canada and the US.

C:      Can you talk about medical intuitive styles? In your book you mention the hands-on-healer.
L:       A lot of what healers do I wouldn’t categorize it as medical intuition, but I included it because lots of people tell me that they are a medical intuitive. When I ask what that means to them, it’s clear that what they are doing is hands-on-healing; they’re getting intuitive hits that sort of jump from the body while they are working. Many healers call this medical intuition, and there is nothing wrong with that.

A massage therapist might say they are getting an impression. We are in the neophyte stage, just finding language to describe this work and trying to talk to one another about it. The purpose of the book is to help people ask what this field is about, how is it defined, what are the different styles. People get shy when they hear that someone can be intuitive about their body. They don’t even know how to ask good questions about it. We as practitioners have not even thought it through to be able to come up with concrete language and context and protocols around what we do.

When I talk with medical practitioners, I’m just another piece of the puzzle. I tell them that their client has done a scan with me and these are the pieces they want me to highlight. It’s very exciting to be an adjunct service like that.

C:      Do you ever have professionals who absolutely will not listen to what you have to say?
L:      The only reason I’m even speaking to a medical practitioner is that the client has asked me to. Lots of times the client is actually there in the office with them. So that’s an ideal way from me to be used. Or rarely, the MD will contact me because they have tried everything traditional and are not sure what else to do. With the client’s permission I will tune in and relay the info back to them.

That’s often where we can be of the most service, because the “real” issue is not often where they are looking. I’m not a medical doctor and I don’t pretend to be. It puts me at an advantage. I go with a blank slate and just ask the body to tell me what’s going on.

The map-based style is the one that is most well known and most widely used. It would work with a person’s energy, but also draw on their “maps” to see what chakra region is it, what does Chinese medicine say and so on.

C:      For me the first time I ever heard about medical intuition was with Caroline Myss. Now I run into this field a lot in my job.
L:      You’ve got a wonderful woman, Caroline Sutherland, who comes to your store. I have never met her, but I’ve seen her website and read her book and she seems quite amazing. Her style is more map based. As is Caroline Ritberger, down in California.

C:      Do you do phone readings or just in person readings?
L:      Most of our work is long distance. It’s easier because we have no preconceived ideas. Most of the people end up preferring this method. You don’t need to travel and can usually get an appointment easier.

C:      One of your topic areas is fear. I’d say it keeps us from doing almost anything.
L:      I agree. Especially when you start talking about intuitive work. You are going to meet fear. I address it separately because I want to keep it nice and simple. Here’s what it is. Here’s how it spreads. Here’s your part in it. Here’s how to get unhooked. Here's what you do when fear comes up inside yourself. And most importantly, here’s what fear looks like when it’s coming at you from other people so that you can recognize it and get out of the way of it.

Fear is either looking for customers or it’s looking for company. The whole piece that I teach about fear is that you don’t have to banish it or fight it, you just need to realize what it is and have firm knowledge about it like an adult. If we get enmeshed and stuck in it’s being dark and evil and keep trying to banish it we can’t do much about it. If we honor it and know what it is, we don’t need to be run by it.

C:      Thanks Lori.
