Capturing Metaphysical Energy on Canvas

Artist Julia Watkins with painting 'Elephant Charge'Artist Julia Watkins got her start as an international model which allowed her to travel and show her work worldwide. She overcame a severe learning disability to graduate early from high school and graduate college Summa Cum Laude. In addition to her art career, she became a successful business woman in a predominantly male industry - construction building and development. She is a descendant of Tuskarora Indians inhabiting Okracoke Island, NC.

After 20 years as an impressionist painter – influenced by Tai Chi, Navajo religion, the teachings of Deepak Chopra, Astrology and Japanese art – in September 2004 Watkins had a life-altering dream which inspired the art style known as Energism. She dreamed she floated over a mountain lake where colorful three dimensional energy swirls shimmered and twisted while making high chiming sounds. She awoke and painted "First Dream." Other paintings followed.

Julia Watkins’s metaphysical art, known as energism is an emerging form of fine art, where large swirly brushstrokes represent energy envelope images of animals and people. Elephant charge, the cover painting on this issue, captures the circular flow of energy emanating from the powerful central chest region of the bull elephant. To find the hidden images and experience the energy in her paintings, a viewer must relax and use the right side of his/her brain – a state akin to meditation. Over 1 million people have experienced Watkins' most famous painting, Four Monks; Deepak Chopra bought her Dolphins picture, and her elephant series is sure to be a hit as well.
