Interview with Intuitive Animal Communicator Marta Williams

by Connie Hill

In 1989 Marta Williams was a scientist and felt she wasn’t making enough of a difference given the enormity of world problems. On a vision quest she found intuitive animal communication. She made it into a career and has written a very informative and radical book to help people learn to use animal communication called Learning Their Language.

Connie: Are you able to make it financially as an animal intuitive now?
Marta: Yes, the book made a big difference. I’m so lucky I hooked up with New World Library, and that wasn’t an accident.

Connie: Tell me about it.
Marta: For five years I’d been trying to get published, and I thought I’d have to self-publish. One of my students said "Talk to my husband. He worked for a publisher and could tell you what to do." I didn’t get special treatment; I still had to produce something they wanted to publish. But the universe stepped in and it was amazing.
I wrote the book because I wanted to shift consciousness. I’m a maverick scientist and I believe that what I’m doing is real science. It’s not recognized by the traditional scientific community, except physicists. Using scientific methods, Rupert Sheldrake is showing that dogs can tell when their owners are coming home without external clues. He’s also working with mothers and babies, to show that mothers can tell what their babies need even from a distance.
In my book I say that ancient people rely on intuition naturally. The reason we don’t is that we were trained not to do it from an early age.

Connie: It’s about honoring the earth and nature, like the Native Americans do.
Marta: For a recent article about intuitive communication with plants I interviewed a Native American herbalist. She believed in asking a plant if it can be used for healing work, and if the plant says no you honor that. Westerners and people from modern cultures feel they are entitled to everything. They can’t "hear," so they only hear yes.
I believe we are not first or on top. If we want to survive we have to understand that. We have to think about everything else and not use it up. The basis for sustainability is believing and behaving as if we are a community with all of the other life forms. People could learn how to hear what trees, dogs, horses and red tailed hawks have to say. Learning to hear takes them back to their childhood and they want to be able to do it. When people open that door it’s like a miracle happens.

Connie: I have this war with ants. At first I just wanted to kill them. But now I’m starting to talk with them. I was told they come in seeking water. Any suggestions?
Marta: Read the chapter in my book called A New Way of Talking. Be really, really respectful and suggest a compromise. You might tell them that you’ll leave a dish of water outside at all times and explain in detail what your problem is, that you really don't want to kill them and you want to have a respectful relationship with them. In the book I talk about George Washington Carver and Luther Burbank. Both talked to their plants and believed the plants talked back. Carver was interviewed and asked how he came up with his ideas and he said his plants told him the ideas, "And if you love your plants enough they might talk to you."

Connie: How do you communicate with animals?
Marta: Here are a couple of client stories. One is a Portland woman whose cat disappeared. I tuned in and the cat showed me she was alive and scared of people. She showed me that she was about a block away and gave me a description of the house she was by. It was like I was remote viewing. The house had a lot of dense landscaping. The woman found the house and talked to the owner. Next day the home owner called and the cat had shown up. It’s not uncommon to have that kind of result, but I’m more accurate at what animals like or don’t like, what’s going on in their life and so on.
In another case a woman’s husband had gotten her a pit bull. The dog had issues and she was worried about safety with the dog. My main suggestion was to start talking with the dog, tell the dog what would happen if the behaviors continue. Tell the dog how she felt and to engage her heart when she talked. Over night the dog changed. The woman got the situation in control immediately. It was a total success story!
I tell people to talk to their animal as if they really understand and suspend disbelief for two weeks and see what happens. Usually people come back amazed. Animals absolutely understand, even from a distance. My byline is animals are masters of intuitive communication. They never got acculturated like we did. They see intuition as a survival tool. And they use it.

Connie: Thank you Marta.
