In Memoriam, John R. Lee, M.D. (1929 - 2003)

Dr. John Lee graduated cum laude from Harvard and the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1955. For nearly a decade, Dr. Lee used transdermal progesterone in his medical practice - its use resulting in a reversal of osteoporosis. Dr. Lee, who retired from a 30 year family practice, has been tireless, writing, giving talks and teaching worldwide right up to his unexpected death in October, 2003.

In 1994, Dr. Lee wrote, "Natural Progesterone: the Multiple Roles of a Remarkable Hormone." Co-authored with Virgina Hopkins:, Dr. Lee wrote the best-selling, "What Your Doctor May Not tell You About Menopause: The Breakthrough Book on Natural Progesterone" (Warner, 1996), and his last book was "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause: Balance Your Hormones And Your Life From Thirty to Fifty" (Warner, 1999).

Dr. Lee was known by millions of people as the doctor who pioneered the use of transdermal progesterone cream and bio-identical hormones, and who had the courage to stand up against the medical establishment’s dangerous and misguided HRT (hormone replacement therapy) treatments. Dr. Lee was convinced that hormonal imbalance, due particularly to unopposed estrogen, as well as synthetic hormones, poor diet and pollutants, increased the risk of cancers, autoimmune diseases and heart disease. He gave warning of the dangers of commonly prescribed drugs used in the Pill and hormone-replacement therapy. Dr. Lee was thankful that his analysis of the problems with conventional HRT were finally validated by the medical establishment during his lifetime.

His website, www.johnleemd.com, continues to offer a wide range of information about natural hormones and hormone balance for women and men, resources for finding out more, as well as a variety of books, audio and video tapes and other useful products. The most meaningful way to remember John R. Lee, M.D. and carry on his work is to educate others, one-to-one.
