Taurus: Creative Potential, Fond of Luxury

by Yogacharya Bharat

This article discusses Taurus, the second zodiac sign from its deeper spiritual meanings in Vedic, Hindu astrology, along with some mundane aspects. Vedic or Hindu astrology is the oldest form of astrology in the world, going back more than 25,000 years.

Taurus succeeds Aries, which represents the struggling energy eager to express itself, and experiences the newness of manifestation. The second stage in cosmic evolution is the activation of creative energy. At this stage energy eager to express itself must immerse itself in material pursuits. The energy with Aries is a vague urge. Its action is not well directed and its goal is not clear. However, the second phase in Taurus imparts a specific goal. At this stage desire is more important than action.

The bull as the symbol of Taurus shows the psychological characteristic of this sign. A special feature of the bull is its utter disinterestedness with everything that does not concern it. It approaches a cow only when she is ready to bear another calf. The bull’s mission in life is not to waste its energy but to be purposeful. For the assigned task, Taurus has immense vitality and strength. But this energy is not expended without a specific goal. The Taurus born only work when they want to attain a certain object. Under Taurus, the basic urge is to strive for creative union. Such an attitude often seems selfish. Outwardly, such a person seems listless but once their desire is aroused, whether for sex, money or social status, they approach their object with all their power.

Indian womanhood stands for motherhood. Mother Nature is the Hindu ideal. Nature is the passive component of the creative process. The positive force flows from the spirit. When the Indian woman cherishes the benediction from Nandi, the bull of Lord Siva, it symbolizes her readiness to receive the grace so that creative mission can be successful. The cherished goal of Indian womanhood is to achieve fruitful motherhood through cooperation in the Divine mission of carrying out the evolutionary process. Therefore Hindu women greatly venerate Nandi, Siva’s bull.

Under Taurus, the Divine influences on various subtler phases, which alters its expression, the impulse is passionate, self-seeking and almost demonic. The mind becomes subordinate to basic physical urges. It is the forceful penetration of energy that is important. This makes the psychological structure either highly devotional or extremely self-seeking knowing nothing other than what it desires.

Taurus represents creative potential – sex, procreation and nurture. The need to procreate is part of the soul’s mission, the second stage of cosmic evolution. In Taurus desire predominates and physical and material needs are paramount. The soul recognizes its limitations and its need for nurture, working solely on a material level. The Taurean’s sphere of influence is always on a practical level. Venus rules Taurus, which is very sensuous and loves the finer things n life: money, good food, art, music and beauty. It likes an atmosphere of permanence. The Five "Ps" Pleasure, Property, Prosperity, Popularity and Position mean much to Taurus.

Having penetrated the material veil, the soul realizes its limitations and responsibilities. With clarity of the mission ahead and awareness of the power at its command, the soul functions like a responsible parent. The vision of its immense possibilities arouses in it the will to be divine servant. Such a person enjoys social status, wealth, power, and above all family and serves them. Once this stage is over egoism develops in the individual. The sense of I-ness makes the individual creative but not satisfied with the given situation. The restless mind moving from one pleasure to another, from one material involvement to another, enables the soul to fathom various aspects of its inner potential. Having done so, it becomes impatient, feeling that the opportunities in life are inadequate to develop all of its qualities. This is the final phase of the Taurus impulse, when the soul is ready to proceed further to receive another downpouring of Divine influence.

In essence, Taurus is creative potential, but it saturates the soul with this and it carries it through subtler transformations. For pure emotional energy directed towards procreation, it gradually makes the individual recognize the fullness of drama and his part in it. Soon he understands the limitations of his environment and begins to express his true self. Subtle transformation in the creative urge occurs during this phase of cosmic ideation.

From the mundane prospective, Taurus people may be abandoned by people close to them, but their attraction to opposite sex will be enormous and will persist despite any hardship. Their appearance will be majestic; they have an amiable disposition, and will be learned in scriptures. In general, they have creative intelligence, good speaking and writing skills, are self-reliant, ambitious, proud, and have a soft, pleasing and forgiving nature. Physically, they may have broad thighs and a big face and suffer from water related diseases. On negative side, they are materialistic, prone to trouble in early marriage, stubborn, can be easily seduced, over-sexed, need to watch diet, and can be arrogant and may have pride issue. The famous Taurus people are Sri Krishna, Queen Victoria, Burt Reynolds, Drew Barrymore, Bagwan Rajneesh, and Mick Jagger.

The above describes the general traits of the Taurus born person, and it will get modified based on the birth chart and its planetary placements. Therefore, for a personalized Vedic reading, you should consult Vedic astrologer.
