March/April 2002 Living Now
What is Ta Ke Ti Na?
by Zorina Wolfe
Twice a year from September 1998-March 2001, a group of 24 individuals
from around the world gathered in Clackamas at the Still Meadow Retreat
Center for a 15-day-long intensive rhythm teacher training called Ta
Ke Ti Na. The facilitator and founder of Ta Ke Ti Na, Reinhard Flatischler,
percussionist and composer, has been bringing this unique and powerful
rhythmic process to the world for 30 plus years.
What is Ta Ke Ti Na? It is a new paradigm for learning, facilitating
access to oneself--connecting the body, mind and soul to the archetypal
realm found in rhythm. Rhythm Archetypes, as Mr. Flatischler calls them,
are the natural laws of vibration found reflected in every persons
consciousness. One of the guiding ideas of Ta Ke Ti Na is that our most
profound learning occurs between chaos and order. Because Ta Ke Ti Na
is done in a group circle, the individual can experience the chaos of
"falling out" of rhythm, while at the same time feeling the
support of the collective. Then, finding ones own way back into
rhythm can build profound confidence that life is carrying us. This
process of letting go can bring about flexibility in the circle and
deep trust in oneself that allows for self-organization to emerge, guiding
the organic evolution of a system. A Ta Ke Ti Na circle usually spans
2 1/2 hours, allowing participants to have the time to become more comfortable
being in the known and the unknown. Ta Ke Ti Na can allow for transformation
to occur in a gradual and gentle way
learning from the inside out.
Last year many people from the greater Portland area attended the final
examinations for this teacher training, participating in one or more
of the 11 days of Ta Ke Ti Na sets at Still Meadow. This year, the graduates
of this process return for their first annual Supervision. We are inviting
the general public to participate in Ta Ke Ti NA circles with the new
teachers to help further their training. This is a great opportunity
for all that would like to experience Ta Ke Ti Na first hand (or who
have experienced it before) to come to Still Meadow April 3-6th
and join in a circle. Participation is FREE! You may attend as many
sessions as you want; however registration is required. For more information,
call Mina Hansen at 503-558-0435 or email at minahansen@netscape.net.
Mr. and Mrs. Flatischler will also be leading a three-day Ta Ke
Ti Na rhythm workshop March 29-31, just prior to the teacher supervision
period. For any interest that you may have in attending the workshop
and finding out more about this process, please contact Niki Doering
