Earth Day 2002 Events
Earth
& Spirit Council together with the Green House Network and the Bonneville
Power Administration and the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, will
host a one-day family event Sunday, April 28, in and around the Oregon
Zoo to celebrate Earth Day. Scheduled events include the Procession
of the Species, the Race to Stop Global Warming and an Earth Day Expo
2002. There will be entertainment, lectures and presentations, artists,
music, food and more!
The theme for the Earth Day Expo 2002, sponsored by the Bonneville Power
Administration and the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, is "Protecting
our Home." It is free to the public after zoo admission, and will
feature earth-friendly displays and exhibits presenting environmental
information, fun activities and innovative products. In addition, there
will be scheduled presentations throughout the day by local experts and
personalities, as well as music, food and entertainment. Registration
for the Expo will begin February 19th at Bonneville Power Administration.
What better way to celebrate Earth Day 2002 than by joining in the
Procession of the Species! Now in its fourth year, the Procession is
a colorful and artistic celebration of our natural world sponsored by
the Earth & Spirit Council. Children and adults parade in their
beautiful and creative costumes, honoring the earth and all living creatures
in the spirit of ancient traditions practiced by native peoples around
the world.
The Race to Stop Global Warming is scheduled from 7:00am - 10:00am
and the Earth Day Expo will run all day from 9 to 5 pm. At 10am participants
in the Procession of the Species will gather and there will be last
minute mask-making and face painting available. The Procession begins
at 11:30.
