Alberta Street Co-Op Opens Its Doors
Four years of dreaming and hard work have finally paid off with
the opening of the Alberta Street Co-op. They are at 1500 NE Alberta
Street, corner of 15th, in a building owned by Rosalind Hill, a
local businesswoman excited about creating community spaces. The
whole neighborhood has gotten behind the vision of a dedicated group
of volunteers to create a market that features local and organic
products from suppliers adopting sustainable and responsible farming
practices.
The fledgling enterprise is starting to build up its supplier base
among local growers. Bill Boyd, newly elected Treasurer of the group,
noted that they are open to suppliers at the micro level,
which should be good news for small-scale growers.
The Co-op will have a staff of 4-6 paid positions, but the rest
will be staffed by working members who will exchange work for increased
discounts. If you want more information on the co-op, contact Steyn
Pearson or Jodi Benatovich at 503-287-4333 or by email to albertacoopgrocery@hotmail.com.
