The Wild Food Primer
by John Kallas, Ph.D
One solution to rising food prices, genetically modified crops
and pesticide contamination could be to start seriously investigating
edible wild plants. The "Wild Food Primer" is a step-by-step
guide to successfully learning about and using wild edible plants.
It tells you which plants are edible, medicinal or poisonous and
how to identify them, and addresses environmental issues related
to using wild plants. The booklet explains how to get started,
successful experimentation, principles to live by, how to choose
the right books, finding the best instructor or instructor alternatives
in your area, using wild food resources like the library or the
Internet, and proper gathering etiquette. At the end there is also
a useful bibliography. This little gem is an essential guide for
beginning to advanced foragers. Keep an eye out for Dr. Kallas
new book, Wild Gourmet Garden Vegetables coming out next
year.
The Wild Food Primer is only $4 and may be ordered from
