July/August 2000 Alternative Health
California Senate

by Tim Bolen

The California State Senate, fed up with low quality "Standard of Practice" health care in the state, passed a Cancer Reform Bill on Friday, June 1, 2000. The bill eliminates the requirement in California that all cancer treatment be "limited to chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery," and opens the door to alternative medicine. It was sponsored by California Citizens For Health, and backed by the California Medical Association (CMA).

The backing of the bill by the CMA was not a surprise to health freedom activists, because, unlike the American Medical Association (AMA), the CMA is still controlled by practicing MDs - while the AMA is controlled by the medical industry - a big difference.

The California "Cancer Reform Bill" heads for the California House of Representatives this week, right on the heels of the Minnesota and Arizona reform laws. Easy passage is expected. Minnesota's new law sounds very, very, good... Maybe we could copy it here too.

With thanks to Tim Bolen for this report.
